Upon arrival at Bagdogra Airport, you will be warmly greeted and transferred to the border town of Phuentsholing. After completing border permit formalities, visit the tranquil Kharbandi Gumpa (Milarepa Lhakhang). From there, begin your scenic drive upward through winding mountain roads and serene countryside toward Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The route takes you via Gedu—situated roughly 9,000 feet above sea level—offering breathtaking valley vistas. Make a short stop along the way to capture photos at the stunning Wankha Waterfalls. Upon reaching Thimphu in the evening, check in to your hotel for a well-deserved overnight stay.
Start your morning early with a drive toward the scenic Dochula Pass (3,150 meters), famous for its 108 memorial chortens and panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. Continue downhill into the subtropical Punakha Valley to visit Chimi Lhakhang, the well-known “Fertility Temple.” Explore the magnificent Punakha Dzong, majestically situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, and walk across the nearby long suspension bridge. After a full day of sightseeing in Punakha, return to Thimphu in the evening for an overnight stay at your hotel.
Dedicate the morning to exploring Thimphu’s key cultural landmarks, including the colossal Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point), the sacred National Memorial Chorten, the interactive Simply Bhutan living museum, Changangkha Lhakhang, and the Motithang Takin Preserve to view Bhutan’s unique national animal. You will also get quick photo stops near the National Library, the Zorig Chusum School of Traditional Arts, and Tashichho Dzong. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic drive along the Wang Chhu river valley toward Paro, passing through the Chuzom road confluence and the historic Tachogang Temple, complete with a visit to the Paro Nyamai Zam Bridge. Check in to your hotel in Paro for an overnight stay.
Spend a full day exploring the rich historical and cultural attractions of Paro Valley. Begin with visits to the iconic Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) and the ancient 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang temple. Head up to the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) to view historical artifacts and enjoy a panoramic bird’s-eye view of Paro International Airport nestled in the valley below. Pause along the Paro River for scenic photos, see the historic Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, and stop at the viewpoints offering a striking distance view of the famous cliffside Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery). Return to your Paro hotel for the evening.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a relaxing journey back down the mountains from Paro toward Phuentsholing. As you descend, take in the changing landscapes from high-altitude alpine greenery to sub-tropical forests. Upon reaching Phuentsholing, check in to your hotel and unwind. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll to explore the bustling local markets across the border area of Phuentsholing and Jaigaon for souvenirs and local snacks before your overnight stay.
After breakfast, complete your departure check-out formalities at Phuentsholing. Begin your final drive back into West Bengal, India, making your way through the lush tea gardens and plains toward Bagdogra Airport. You will be dropped off at the terminal in time for your onward flight home, concluding a memorable journey across Bhutan.
